Poll: Who was better as a prep, Clayton Kershaw or Madison Bumgarner?

Many baseball fans will tune in to tonight's Dodgers vs. Giants game because, well, it's the Dodgers and Giants. It's one of the game's great rivalries - and one of the bes in all of sports.

What makes this late-April tilt so big is the pitchers: reigning two-time Cy Young Award winner and league MVP Clayton Kershaw vs. reigning World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner.

It is the first time in MLB history the reigning league and World Series MVPs have met on the mound.

So, we at MaxPreps — a place (relatively) divided between Giants and Dodgers fans — present the million-dollar question: Who was a better prep player, Kershaw or Bumgarner?

As a senior at Highland Park (Dallas) in 2006, Kershaw posted a 13-0 record with a 0.77 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 64 innings. He pitched a perfect game, striking out all 15 batters in a playoff win shortened due to the mercy rule. He was the Gatorade National Player of the Year his senior year.

Bumgarner was 23-4 over his last two seasons for South Caldwell (Hudson, N.C.), leading his team to state 4A title games both years and winning in 2007. He had a 1.00 ERA and struck out 263 in 170 innings in that span and capped his prep career with a walk-off two-run homer to win the state title. He hit .424 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs in those two seasons and was the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year his senior year.

OK fans, please vote below for who was a better as a prep. A friendly lunch wager is on the line.

High school football: Start dates for all 50 states - HIGHSCORE
High school football: Start dates for all 50 states
High school football across the country concluded its unique 2020-21 season earlier this month with state championship games in North Carolina and Rhode Island.

With COVID-19 numbers improving throughout the country, the 2021 season will not need a hyphen. All states have indicated intent for a traditional fall season, starting with preparation and non-league and conference games starting in the summer, and conclusion by the end of the calendar year.

More than half of the states have already set complete calendars, with start practice, season and playoff points, as as well as championship dates. Some of those are still pending state association and federation approval. Thirteen states have set partial dates, with a dozen currently still ironing out specific plans for all 2021-22 sports.

The following is an ongoing updated list of those dates. Please notify us with further updates or corrections via e-mail at [email protected] or by Twitter @MitchMashMax. Note: States with asterisk pending final approval.

High school football: Historic win moves Norco to No. 10 in HIGHSCORE Top 25 California rankings - HIGHSCORE
High school football: Historic win moves Norco to No. 10 in MaxPreps Top 25 California rankings
In recent memory, some things just don't happen in Southern Section football.

1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower) don't get threatened — unless they play each other.

2. Centennial (Corona) doesn't lose — unless it's to Mater Dei or Bosco.

3. Teams don't enter the MaxPreps Top 25 rankings in the Top 10.

All those "never-happens" happened last week.

CALIFORNIA SPRING COMPUTER RANKINGS: Compare to human rankings below

• For the second straight game, No. 4 Servite (Anaheim) gave one of the two national juggernauts a heck of a game, losing 24-17 to No. 1 Mater Dei. The Monarchs needed a pick-six from junior cornerback Cameron Sidney and a strip-sack on the game's final play to eek out the win. The previous week, Servite (2-2) played toe-to-toe with No. 2 Bosco, losing 38-28.

• Previous No. 3 Centennial was stunned by unranked Norco 38-36, ending the Huskies' 57-game Big VIII league win streak. Junior quarterback Kyle Crum accounted for 265 yards and three touchdowns leading the Cougars to their first win over perennial national power Centennial since 2009.

• With the victory, Norco (3-0), which outscored its first two opponents by a cumulative score of 116-12, jumped from unranked to No. 10, just ahead of the Huskies and behind No. 9 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego).

Speaking of, Cathedral Catholic (3-0) hosts No. 22 Lincoln (San Diego) on Friday in the state Game of the Week that will decide the supremacy of the San Diego Section. Cathedral Catholic is coming off a bye while Lincoln won its third straight blowout, 52-0 over Madison (San Diego), giving the Hornets a 152-0 season edge over all opponents.
Cathedral Catholic junior running back Lucky Sutton leads the team with 463 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Ninth-ranked Cathedral Catholic hosts No. 22 Lincoln on Friday.

High School Baseball: Wild week ahead in Florida could provide major shakeup for HIGHSCORE Top 25 - HIGHSCORE
High School Baseball: Wild week ahead in Florida could provide major shakeup for MaxPreps Top 25
The MaxPreps Top 25 high school baseball rankings could drastically different next week thanks to a number of big games pitting some of the top teams in the nation, all of them from Florida.

No. 2 Jesuit (Tampa) has a tough slate as it takes on Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) and No. 6 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). The Ascenders, meanwhile, take on small-school powerhouse Canterbury prior to the Jesuit matchup. No. 4 Stoneman Douglas, meanwhile, tangles with No. 12 Calvary Christian Academy in one week.

Those matchups will have heavy influence on the rankings in the coming week, as will the final two matchups between No. 1 Buford (Ga.) and No. 25 Winder-Barrow. Although the Bulldogs lost the first game to the top-ranked Wolves, they will likely throw All-American Brady House in one of the final two games of the three-game series providing Buford's toughest test so far this season.

Dropped out: Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.), Pioneer (Mission, Texas), Braddock (Miami, Fla.).

Game of the Week: Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) 6, Pinnacle, 5. The Huskies rallied from a 5-3 deficit with two runs in the top of the seventh and then scored the winning run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Player of the Week: Jay Dill, Baylor. Dill homered four times in five wins for Baylor and drove in 12 runs.

Recruit Watch: Braden Montgomery, Madison Central. The All-America candidate had a double, triple and home run in one game last week and also picked up a pitching win.

Game to Watch: Buford vs. Winder-Barrow. Although Buford defeated Winder-Barrow in their first matchup on Monday, the Bulldogs got to Wolves' starter Dylan Lesko for four runs on five hits. Winder-Barrow is likely to give No. 1 Buford its toughest test for the remainder of the regular season.
